We Belong Here. August Belongs to Us
The second Saturday of August. The first Belonging Day is Saturday, August 14, 2027.
Belonging Day is a new celebration of the people, places, and traditions that turn a location into a community. The idea fits in four words:
Participate Where You Live
Go outside. Meet a neighbor. Buy from the maker. Show up.
Pledge your town · Get it on your local calendar · Make your own video
Five ways to celebrate
- Meet a neighbor you have waved at for years.
- Shop from a local maker, or eat at a neighborhood restaurant.
- Visit the park, museum, trail, market, or landmark you keep meaning to see.
- Volunteer for something that matters.
- Share a table. Invite someone you know, and maybe someone you do not know yet.
There is no single right way. A street dinner, a park cleanup, a market, a concert, a history walk, a block party, a garage sale. Make it yours.

Why August
Between July 4th and Labor Day, there are about nine weeks and no federal holiday. Summer is not over. The evenings are still long, the fairs and markets are running, and Main Street can stay open late. It is the perfect time for one more great Saturday before the season turns.
August is not empty. It is full of small, unofficial observances, and Belonging Day sits beside them:
- National Garage Sale Day falls on the second Saturday of August, the same day as Belonging Day every year. Neighbors in their driveways are belonging in action.
- National Creamsicle Day is August 14 every year. In 2027, it lands on the same Saturday as the first Belonging Day. Enjoy a creamsicle on the porch.
- National Night Out is a neighbors-and-community night held in early August in many places.
These observances are independent of Belonging Day and have not endorsed it. We are inviting you to celebrate alongside them, not in place of them.
Pledge Your Town
Belonging Day is brand new. One person started it in October 2026, and no organization has endorsed it yet.
That makes your town a founding town.
Tell us where you will celebrate. A porch, a driveway, a park bench, or a full street dinner all count.
Be the first town to pledge.

Get it on your local calendar
Belonging Day gets on the calendar one town at a time, and the people who run your town can make it happen. Four places to start:
- Your mayor or town clerk. Ask for a proclamation or a listing on the town calendar. The clerk usually sets council agendas. Find your local officials
- Your chamber of commerce. Search for your town’s name plus “chamber of commerce,” and ask them to list the date on the community calendar.
- Your Lions club. Find a Lions club near you
- Your Rotary club. Find a Rotary club near you
What to say: “Belonging Day is a new community celebration on the second Saturday of August. The first one is August 14, 2027. Would you add it to our calendar, host something, or proclaim it locally?”
More places to ask: Kiwanis and Optimist clubs. Elks, Moose, and Knights of Columbus lodges. American Legion and VFW posts. County and state fair boards and 4-H. Public libraries and historical societies. Parks and recreation departments. Senior centers. Farmers markets and downtown or Main Street groups. Neighborhood associations. School PTAs.
No organization has endorsed Belonging Day. You are asking them to list it, host something, or proclaim it locally. Small yeses add up.
Host kit, proclamation, and your own video
Host Kit. A free hosting guide with ideas for a porch gathering, block party, park cleanup, market, or history walk, a six-week planning timeline, and ready-to-paste event listing language. Open the Host Kit.
Proclamation template: A short, ready-to-sign document for mayors and councils. Email MrDon@BoomerBlogger.com and we will send it.
Make your own video. The launch video runs 50 seconds. Make yours. A street, a market, a porch, a neighbor. Post it with #BelongingDay and tag @settingpoints. The best ones get featured, with credit to the creator.
Three starter ideas:
- Meet your neighbor in 15 seconds.
- Show us the local maker you love.
- One Saturday, one town: what is yours?
Tell your story. Be the first to tell us how your town celebrated. Email your story to MrDon@BoomerBlogger.com.

Who started this
I am Don Dixon, The Boomer Blogger. I was building a calendar to sell on Etsy and noticed that August has no federal holiday. A “Create a Holiday” challenge, a push from the AI Creators Club to finish something and post it, and a summer with no federal holiday did the rest.
I started Belonging Day in October 2026.
This is a day for the people who make a place feel like home.
Belonging is not only something we feel. It is something we create together.
